Did beautician Sirisha commit suicide in humiliation after she was "raped" during her visit to the Kuknoorpally police station along with Rajeev and Shravan to meet Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Reddy on the intervening night of June 12 and 13?
This question assumed importance following new investigations by the police after they found blood stains on her clothes. Her clothes were sent to the forensic science laboratory to determine whether she was sexually assaulted. Only after receipt of the forensic report will the facts come to light.
It might be mentioned here that the Rajeev, the studio owner where Sirisha was working as a beautician, and his friend Shravan were arrested and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody upon charges of abetment to the suicide. The police in the remand report mentioned that Sirisha had committed suicide, and that the reason leading to the extreme step might be humiliation after being called a prostitute by Rajeev, whom she immensely loved.
In the remand report it was stated that both Rajeev and Shravan had expressed suspicion that the Sub-Inspector had sexually assaulted Sirisha. The SI insisting that Rajeev and Shravan go to a nearby brothel and enjoy themselves leaving Sirisha behind in his quarters, and the discovery of blood stains on her clothes also seem to point to that. A possible scenario is that the Sub-Inspector had indeed committed the offence, and that had led him to panic and shoot himself with his service revolver.
If the SI did commit the alleged crime, why did Rajeev and Shravan not prevent it is a million dollar question. It is pertinent to recall here the statement of the Commissioner of Police during his media conference describing Shravan as a shady character and saying that he might have had an ulterior motive in making Sirisha come to Kuknoorpally to meet his SI friend to resolve her problem with Tejaswini, another friend of Rajeev who the latter was planning to marry.
The police could also lay hands on a telephonic conversation between Sirisha and two of Rajeev's friends in which the beautician seemed to have expressed her anger with Tejaswini and wanted help to ensure that the latter would not meddle with her life. In the conversation she also seemed to have expressed intense love for Rajeev.
The investigating officers are now awaiting the report from the forensic experts to proceed further on the theory that the beautician was sexually assaulted.
Meanwhile the police filed a petition in the court seeking five days' police remand of Rajeev and Shravan as further interrogation of them was necessary in the wake of new evidence surfacing in the case like the audio tape of the conversation between Sirisha and two friends of Rajeev. The cell phone of Sirisha also seemed to have loads of messages which could throw further light on the case.
