In order to provide a safe environment for the women of Hyderabad at public places as well as during transit, the SHE Teams have been operating in mufti and regularly moving around crowded and secluded areas where there is a possibility of harassment or teasing of women. Wherever such harassment or teasing is noticed, the offenders are nabbed with video evidence, and relevant cases registered.
The SHE teams have been deployed to observe Ganesh pandals and the other crowded areas during the Ganesh festival this year, and in three days, they caught 55 persons red-handed at the Bada Ganesh pandal in Khairatabad indulging in obscene acts, or touching or following women inappropriately, with video evidence.
The offenders are from varied professions - auto drivers, private sector employees and even government employees - and have caused embarrassment to women by touching them inappropriately, passing lewd comments or making lewd gestures. The relevant cases were registered against them, and they were counselled and are being produced in court.
One person identified as Shyam Bihari Mahto, 28, from Tinpahar, Sahebganj, Jharkhand, was also caught while moving in a suspicious manner, and four stolen mobile phones were recovered from him. He was handed over to the Khairatabad PS.
The SHE teams are a call away. Any complaint related to harassment or teasing may be shared with the Hyderabad Police Whatsapp number, 9490616555. You may also dial 100 in case of any emergency.
