Telangana IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu today demanded that the Union government take up the revival of the defunct Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant in Adilabad.
The minister said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and he himself had, on several occasions, personally appealed to Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy for the revival of this major industrial unit.
At a high-level meeting held at the Secretariat with Chief Secretary A Ramakrishna Rao, CCI CMD Sanjay Banga, Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar and other senior officials, proposals for the plant's restoration were reviewed. The CCI management said that around Rs 2,000 crore would be required to modernise the plant. Once operational, the unit could generate employment for nearly 3,000 people.
Sridhar Babu said that Adilabad, being a backward district, stood to benefit immensely from the plant's revival. He stressed that such a major company must remain under the Union government's control, and categorically opposed any move toward privatisation or disinvestment. He also said that the CCI had sought proposals from the State government, which would be submitted shortly.
The minister also said that over 2,000 acres of high-quality limestone deposits were available in the region, ensuring the plant's viability.
