Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited Ramagundam, Telangana, and laid the foundation stones and dedicated to the nation multiple projects worth over Rs 9,500 crore.
Addressing the gathering after dedicating the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) plant to the nation, the Prime Minister said that the projects which were launched and those for which foundation stones had been laid today would promote both agriculture and agricultural growth.
He said that five big fertilizer plants that had been lying closed for years were being restarted, of which the Gorakhpur plant in Uttar Pradesh had already started production, and the Ramagundam plant was being kicked off today.
When these five plants were fully functional, the country would get 60 lakh tons of urea, which would lead to huge savings on imports and enhance the availability of urea, Modi said.
"The Ramagundam fertilizer plant will serve farmers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. The plant will spur the economy of the surrounding areas and will give a push to logistics-related businesses in the area. The Rs 6,000 crore invested by the union government will give several thousands of rupees' benefit to the youth of Telangana," he said.
He added that efforts were being made to speed up the development of projects whose foundation stones were laid, and that the Ramagundam project was a clear example of this. The foundation stone for the Ramagundam project was laid by the Prime Minister on 7th August 2016.
The PM said that the India of the 21st century needed to move forward by realizing ambitious targets. "When the aim is ambitious, we have to come up with new methodologies and create new facilities, and the fertilizer sector is proof of the honest efforts of the union government," he said.
Recalling the time when India used to depend on foreign countries to meet its demand of fertilizers, the Prime Minister pointed out that many fertilizer plants that were set up earlier had been forced to shut down due to obsolete technologies, including the Ramagundam plant.
Governor of Telangana Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and others were present on the occasion.
