Due to a technical glitch, the recalibrated ATM of Kotak Mahindra Bank located at the Shamsabad International Airport gave out, to the surprise of the customers, the new Rs. 500 notes without being prompted on Saturday evening.
The ATM handed out 500 rupee notes when customers chose the 100 denomination. The machine popped out the money in the combination of one 2,000 note and five 500 notes, doling out a total of Rs. 4,500 instead of Rs.2,500 which was the limit. And those who arrived at the airport from various places were trying to withdraw the cash from the ATM at the arrival gate. As per reports, more than a dozen customers received Rs. 500 notes instead of Rs. 100.
While no customer complained about this, the airport authorities called the bank officials, who temporarily closed the ATM.
