Chief Secretary K Pradip Chandra today directed the Collectors of all districts to initiate necessary measures to educate people on cashless transactions in the wake of demonetization.
In a video conference in the Secretariat, the Chief Secretary asked Collectors to create awareness among people in towns and villages, and encourage them to use plastic money and online transactions. Cashless transactions are the future of our economy, he said.
Chandra's remarks assume significance as the scrapping of the two notes coupled with the non-availability of the new 500, 100 and 50 bills led to confusion and chaos among the people.
Reacting on complaints from across the State that banks were denying money and making people stand in queues for long, he directed Collectors and bankers to sort out the issue that had risen as a result of the demonetization besides taking steps to offer money through banks and ATMs.
The CS asked them to hold meetings with bankers and ensure that people got their money on time. The government was coming up with plans to provide sufficient number of swiping machines and equipments for regular business transactions at multiple outlets, he said.
