Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy condemned the BJP-led NDA government for its "failure" in providing relief to the general public who were allegedly hit due to demonitization.
Addressing a massive protest meeting organized by the Mahila Congress wing at Islamia Grounds in the Warangal district on Thursday, Reddy said that it was highly embarrassing and sad that even after 72 days, almost all sections of Society couldn't recover from the impact of the note ban.
While implementing the ban on November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised normalcy within 50 days, he recalled. However, people were still facing restrictions on withdrawal of their own money from banks and ATMs.
He ridiculed the claims being made by some BJP leaders on decrease in the size of queues at banks and ATMs. He claimed that a sizeable population, especially those belonging to middle and poor class, lost their livelihoods due to the note ban and therefore, no fresh deposits were made in most of the banks accounts after November 8.
Uttam Kumar Reddy praised AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for the "brave stand" he took against demonitization, and said that the Nehru-Gandhi scion rightly described the move as the biggest scam India had seen, and asked the Prime Minister to reply to questions raised by the Congress leader.
