In a glaring example of the lack of severity in dealing with cases of rape and child abuse, Rahim, a former government employee, who was imprisoned a few months back for allegedly having raped his two young daughters for 10 months, is now out on bail trying to get his job back.
The incident came to light when one of the girls finally confessed to their mother, following which the mother went to the police. Rahim was then put into prison for 2 months, and is now out on bail.
During an interview with the media, he categorically denied all offence despite being faced with irrefutable medical evidence of his crimes.
"For 10 months he committed unnamable atrocities on my daughters, telling them that he would kill himself if they didn't let him or if they tried to tell their mother. It is ok, papa aisa kar sakte (fathers can do things like this), he told them," said the mother of the two girls, who has now moved all of them to a tiny little house somewhere in Chatrinaka, Old City, after recieving the news of her her husband's release from prison.
Without Rahim's income to support them, the family is now destitute, said the mother, "There is no food for the children, I can't send them to school, I am doing small jobs merely to keep a roof over my head. I would be grateful to the government if I they gave me a job to help us support ourselves.
