After the opposition leaders
briefed media persons at the Secretariat on Thursday on the failure of the all-party meeting, finance minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy gave the government's version, saying that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had clarified its stand and informed the opposition about measures being taken to mitigate the suffering of farmers.
Under the captaincy of the chief minister, 2 resolutions have been passed after detailed discussions on the package announced in the state assembly, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy said.
He said that the all-party meeting has resolved to appeal to the Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu to end his indefinite fast for the farmers immediately, considering his deteriorating health condition.
He also assured that the government would consider all demands at an appropriate time.
The second resolution, which was supported by the opposition parties that took part in the all-party meeting, namely, the TRS, BJP and PRP, was that the government would appeal to farmers to not give up hope and that relief and rehabilitation would be implemented effectively.
Anam Ramnarayan Reddy called upon the farmers not to resort to either distress sales or take the extreme step as the government was on their side to support them. The government has already announced the waiver of the interest on crop loans, and the loans would be rescheduled to their advantage, he stated.
The said that the government had already offered, in the form of input subsidy, Rs. 6,000 per hectare to the farmers who had suffered losses with the standing crop in over 70 lakh hectares damaged. That apart, the government came up with an interest waiver of Rs. 350 crore on crop loans amounting to Rs. 16,000 crore, he stated.
The FCI and CCI have been directed to procure the damaged and discoloured grains and lift the cotton produce immediately.
The government is also favourable to the opposition's proposal to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to motivate the central government for more aid, and it will be effected once the enumeration of crop loss is completed, he stated.
