The office of MLC Teenmar Mallanna (actual name Chintapandu Naveen) in Medipalli, located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, was attacked this morning, allegedly by Telangana Jagruthi activists.
The activists raised slogans against Mallanna and claimed that the attack was in protest against his alleged inappropriate comments on BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha.
The irate mob vandalised the MLC's office, destroying furniture and window panes. During the chaos, Mallanna's gunmen reportedly fired five rounds into the air to disperse the agitators. In the incident, a Jagruti activist named Sai sustained bullet injuries. He was taken to a private hospital in Ramnagar and is currently undergoing treatment.
Reacting to the incident, Malkajgiri DCP Padmaja said that though no official complaint about the incident had been received yet, the police were investigating the attack. She said that once a complaint was lodged, CCTV footage would be reviewed and action would be taken against the accused.
Meanwhile, Mallanna expressed outrage over the attack, accusing Kavitha and her family of attempting to kill him, and also demanding the cancellation of her membership from the Legislative Council for allegedly orchestrating the attack. He said that it was a misconception to believe that such attacks would halt the BC movement.
Speaking to media persons in Hyderabad, he claimed that his hand was injured in the attack. "They snatched the gun from my gunman and tried to shoot me. But just because they launch such attacks, our efforts to empower the BC and oppressed communities will not be hindered. We will move forward with redoubled enthusiasm. I am not afraid of such acts. Mark my words - we will politically defeat you within the next three years," he said.
"If we are fighting the government for the upliftment of BCs, why is Kavitha afraid? She should question her father KCR about her political relevance. It's not right to vent her frustration with KCR and KTR on us," he added.
For the unversed, this is what Mallanna had said: "After the ordinance announced by Revanth Reddy for BC quota, Kalvakuntla Kavitha is celebrating with colours. What is her connection to the issue? Is she a backward class person? What is her relationship with BCs? What kind of links does she have that she shared meals or a bed with us?"
