The Jamiat Ulema Hind (Arshad Madani Group) on Monday announced its support for the Congress party in Telangana for the upcoming elections.
A delegation of nearly 20 religious heads led by JUH State President Mufti Ghayasuddin Rahmani called on Union Minister Jairam Ramesh at a private hotel here on Monday to discuss the issue.
Speaking to media persons later, Mufti Ghayasuddin said that the community was forced to support the Congress party due to the absence of an alternative.
He said that the Congress gave tickets to controversial personalities including to the Sangareddy and Vikarabad MLAs who allegedly played a role in communal riots in their areas.
Mufti Ghayasuddin said that Jairam Ramesh was briefed about the failure of the Congress government in giving legal sanctity to the proposed Muslim reservations. Instead of contesting the case in the Supreme Court, the Congress government could have brought legislation in Parliament, as it did for Telangana formation, to ensure continuance of Muslim reservation, he said.
The JUH leaders also expressed dissent over non-construction of a mosque at the Shamshabad Airport, and the lack of funds for and non-regularisation of the staff of Dairatul Maarif Al-Osmania.
However, in the larger interests of the community and to defeat the communal forces, the JUH will support the Congress in the Telangana region.
Similarly, the JUH will support the Congress candidates in Seemandhra wherever they are strong. In other places, the JUH will support the YSR Congress Party.
Mufti Ghayasuddin said that the JUH leaders did not meet YSRCP President Jaganmohan Reddy in this regard. (INN)
