Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Mohammad Ahmed Ali on Sunday claimed that the Congress party would form the government on its own in the new State of Telangana.
In a media statement, Ahmed Ali said that the Congress would win a majority of the seats in Telangana.
He expressed confidence that the Congress would actually win more than two-thirds of seats, and would therefore not need the support of any other party.
However, in case the party fell short of magic number to form the government, it might take the support of the Communist Party of India, he said.
The CPI had a pre-poll alliance with the Congress party, and the latter had left 8 Assembly seats and 1 Parliament seat to the CPI. Therefore, if needed, the Congress would take the support of the CPI.
Similarly, the Congress might seek the support of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) to form the government, he stated.
The CPI had 4 MLAs in the last Assembly while the MIM had 7. Both the parties were confident of increasing their tally in the 2014 elections. Therefore, the Congress might enter into a post-poll alliance with both the parties, he said.
However, Ahmed Ali said that the Congress might not face such a situation.
He said that the people had already rejected the TRS, which tried to capatalise on Telangana sentiments.
He said that the people had voted in favour of the Congress party after realising that it was AICC President Sonia Gandhi who granted statehood for the Telangana region.
He said that the people had rubbished the false claims of the TRS to the Telangana formation. (INN)
