A software engineer hailing from Chittoor district was shot dead by the boyfriend of a woman he had met on the internet in Detroit on June 16.
The news about the murder was released to the media by the Telugu Association Of North America (TANA) late on Saturday night, India time.
According to TANA, robbery seems to have been the motive behind the murder.
The victim was identified as Venkatasubba Reddy Cuttamanchi, a 35-year-old software engineer. Reddy had met a Mexican woman on an online dating service and set up a date with her. The two had a meal and then proceeded to a motel around 2am.
The woman's boyfriend was waiting inside the EZ Rest motel room along with 4 of his cohorts. The gang then robbed Cuttamanchi and shot him dead.
People in the vicinity called the police on hearing the gunshots. The police immediately picked up the assailants.
Prasad Thotakura, executive vice-president of TANA, said that Cuttamanchi's body will reach India by Tuesday as all arrangements have been made for the same. TANA members also extended their condolences to Cuttamanchi's family members.
