Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka today announced that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would launch the Indira Giri Solar Water Development Scheme at Chenchu Colony in Achampet, Nagarkurnool district, on May 18.
The scheme is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 12,500 crore.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Lakshmi Narasimhapuram in the Illandu constituency, Vikramarka said, "Under this initiative, each tribal farmer will receive a solar-powered pump set, sprinklers and free saplings of crops such as avocado and oil palm. Plans have been drawn up in coordination with the horticulture department to ensure that tribal farmers earn an income every three months."
He also said that the current government had plans to sanction additional Indiramma houses in tribal constituencies.
"In all, a total of 3,500 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned in each constituency, and 4.5 lakh houses will be constructed with an outlay of Rs 22,500 crore. Of these, the government is committed to extensively sanctioning Indiramma Houses specifically for tribal constituencies. This is a historic scheme for the country," he said.
Despite financial constraints the government was implementing welfare schemes worth thousands of crores without placing any burden on the people, and many more welfare initiatives were in the pipeline, the Deputy CM said.
He took the opportunity to slam the BRS, saying that over the ten years that it was in power its exploitative rule had prevented crucial welfare schemes including farm loan waivers, Indiramma Housing and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam from reaching the intended beneficiaries.
He recalled that during the earlier Congress regime, tribal farmers were granted land rights under the Forest Rights Act. However, over the last ten years, when they attempted to cultivate this land, they were brutally attacked, with even women tied to trees and beaten, he claimed.
He also criticised the KCR family for allegedly pushing the State into bankruptcy by misusing public funds when it was in power, but now claiming to advocate for the State's welfare.
"When Telangana was handed over to the Congress government, it inherited a debt burden of Rs 7 lakh crore left behind by the previous rulers. In their 10-year rule, they did not deliver a single free double-bedroom house, failed to distribute the promised three acres of land to any dalit, did not provide their promised one job per household, and abandoned promises like establishing KG-to-PG schools in every mandal. They failed to build even a single major industry or large irrigation project like the Nagarjuna Sagar or the SRSP. Where then did the Rs 7 lakh crore go," he asked.
