Describing the capital city Hyderabad as head for the Telangana state, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday objected to the demand of a few Congress leaders to make Hyderabad Union Territory of the State.
Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Rao stated that Telangana without Hyderabad would be a body without the head. He said that such talk would not serve any purpose.
The senior leader's statement comes in the wake of rumours floating around that a few Congress leaders and ministers desire that Hyderabad be made a Union Territory in the event of bifurcation of the State.
VH also criticized Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders for linking the microfinance issue to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. He said that these attempts to link the Congress leaders with the MFIs were to gain political mileage.
Demanding that TDP leader G Muddukrishnama Naidu and others withdraw their remarks made against Congress leaders, Rao warned them of serious consequences and threatened to launch an agitation against TDP cadre.
Reacting to alleged murky land deals between APIIC and Emaar properties, which caused thousands of crores of loss to the State, the senior leader stated that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would not spare those who indulge in corruption at any place.
"For this, the only indication is Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who submitted his resignation owning moral responsibility for alleged irregularities in allotment of flats in Adarsh Housing Cooperative Society in Mumbai, which were reserved for families of Kargil war heroes,” the Congress leader said.
Rao also stated that he had hoped that the Congress president would order probe into the dubious land deals and punish the guilty.
