Congress leaders today staged a protest in front of the Assembly, alleging disrespect by BRS leaders towards the Telangana martyrs.
The protest was led by former MP V Hanumantha Rao, DCC President Rohin Reddy, SAT Chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao criticized BRS leaders, including K T Rama Rao, for their alleged indifference towards women and Telangana's cultural symbols.
"Since the beginning, KTR has exhibited a dismissive attitude towards women. His past remarks were insulting, and this behaviour is continuing unabated," Rao alleged.
Congress leader Rohin Reddy also accused the BRS of disrespecting Telangana Thalli. "BRS leaders have repeatedly insulted Telangana Thalli. Today's incident is yet another example of their disregard. The party's attitude towards Telangana's cultural and emotional symbols is unacceptable," he said.
"Their actions today insulted the Telangana Martyrs' Memorial, compelling us to perform the milk purification ritual. The people of Telangana are watching and will hold the BRS accountable," Congress leaders said.
As part of the protest, the leaders performed a purification ritual at the Telangana Martyrs' Memorial.
They added that BRS leaders and MLAs would be welcomed warmly if they donned T-shirts featuring Telangana Thalli's image.
For the unversed, the BRS has slammed the installation of a new Telangana Thalli statue at the Secretariat, scheduled for today evening, in place of the previous one, claiming it was not needed when there were so many other pressing issues plaguing the State.
