HC Adjourns Hearing On GHMC Elections To April 16
The High Court has adjourned to Thursday the hearing on a petition pertaining to the conduct of elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The High Court has adjourned to Thursday the hearing on a petition pertaining to the conduct of elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
When the case came up for hearing on Monday, the Telangana government informed the High Court that it had already begun the process of delimitation of the GHMC wards.
It sought some more time from the curt to give possible dates for conducting the elections. However, the court granted only four days to the government, and adjourned the next hearing to April 16 (Thursday).
It may be mentioned that M Padmanabha Reddy of the Centre for Good Governance had filed a Public Interest Litigation with the High Court demanding its intervention for the early conduct of the GHMC elections. The state government, in its counter petition, had sought 249 days to conduct the polls. However, the court rejected the state government's contention, and asked it to announce the poll schedule.
