The Telangana High Court today stayed the orders of a single judge bench stalling municipal elections in Karimnagar district.
Responding to a petition filed by the State government, the High Court issued orders in the government's favour.
The government had challenged the decision of the single judge bench, and appealed to the division bench to grant permission to hold civic elections in Karimnagar, too.
The government counsel argued that the State Election Commission and the official machinery had made all the necessary arrangements for conducting the elections, and that staying elections in one municipal corporation was unfair.
Responding to the government appeal, the court gave its nod for elections in Karimnagar too and stayed the single bench's orders.
With this, the path has been cleared for elections to the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, too. As a result, a total of 10 corporations will be going to the polls, along with 120 municipalities, as scheduled, on January 22.
