Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today said that the corporation officials were on high alert to ensure that the people in the city did not face any difficulties in the wake of the incessant rains for the past four days.

The Mayor inspected the control room set up at the GHMC headquarters. On the occasion, she enquired about the resolution of complaints received from the residents of the city. She said that the authorities were on high alert at the field level with 428 monsoon emergency teams set up. She said that another 27 teams of the DRF were also working round the clock to avoid any difficulty for the people.

Vijayalakshmi added that problems in about 946 water bodies due to the rains had been resolved in the last four days, and that 107 fallen trees had been removed so far. She also said that five walls in dilapidated conditions had been cleared in Lingojiguda, Himayat Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, NTR Nagar and Altaf Nagar.

The GHMC Mayor added that the authorities had also identified houses which were in dilapidated conditions due to the rains in the city and made efforts to avoid any accidents. So far 483 such houses had been identified, of which 87 had been demolished and 92 were permitted to stand with repairs as per the request of the house owners. She said that another 19 houses had been seized.

The Mayor also said that of the 36 works taken up at a cost of Rs 780 crore under the SNDP in the city limits, 30 had been completed. There had been no flooding in any of the 36 sites, and the remaining six works would be completed soon, she added.

The Mayor once again urged the people to come out only if there was urgent work, due to the heavy rains.
