GHMC To Widen Shoppers Stop, Airport Flyover Road
The long pending road widening between the old airport flyover and Shoppers' Stop on the Begumpet road is being achieved through a joint operation by HMR and GHMC.
The long pending road widening between the old airport flyover and Shoppers' Stop on the Begumpet road is now being achieved through a joint operation by HMR and GHMC.
This stretch on the busy Begumpet road had become a severe traffic bottleneck as the widening in front of the Allauddin and Jabbar buildings has been stuck for the last 30 years due to prolonged litigation and "heritage" issues.
After depositing a compensation amount of Rs. 2.14 crores in court for 666 sq. yards of open space in front of the Allauddin building, the large earthen mound in front of the building was removed last week and the road was widened by an additional 40 feet by HMR.
Similarly, after payment of Rs. 5.87 crores for 635 sq. yards of land and structural compensation, the Jabbar building is now being demolished, and it will be completed in a week, stated N V S Reddy.
With these demolitions and road widening, the heavy traffic congestion on this important Begumpet - Secunderabad road will be addressed, and the construction of the Prakash Nagar metro station can now be taken up, he added. (INN)
