Hyderabad | 1st July 2022
As part of enhancing the infrastructure in the city, the GHMC is setting up more and more pelican signals for smooth and safe crossing of busy roads by pedestrains.

Pelican signals are manually-controlled signals, which upon the pressing of a button give the pedestrian a window of 15 seconds to cross the road safely by turning the signal to red.

Keeping in view the heavy vehicular traffic in the city, the GHMC has so far installed 334 traffic signals as per the recommendations made by the traffic police. Likewise, in order to provide safe crossing for the citizens, the GHMC is now adding pelican signals, giving priority to installing such signals near schools, colleges and hospitals, and in busy roads.

So far the GHMC has installed 68 of 94 such signals proposed, and the remaining will be installed as soon as the proposals are received from the traffic police.
