GHMC Driver Held For Rape

The Trimulgherry Police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly committing rape on a mentally unsound woman at Balaji Nagar of Alwal.

The accused has been identified as Venkatesh, a contract driver in GHMC and a resident of Balapur. According to the police, a woman was found lying at Banyan Tree near CSD Canteen Junction, Trimulgherry. On enquiry, it was learnt that the driver of an MCH garbage vehicle bearing the no: AP 11 X 8398 picked the victim up at Balaji Nagar Bus Stop of Alwal, and after reaching the petrol bunk at Balaji Nagar, Alwal, the driver attacked the woman. Later, she was dropped near the CSD Canteen Junction of Trimulgherry.

The victim has been sent to Gandhi Medical Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that N K Rama Krishna, a resident of Defense Colony, Sainikpuri, Secunderabad, while proceeding to his residence from Trimulgherry X-roads in the early hours of Sunday, found a woman lying near a tree with unkempt clothing, and one person was passing urine near her. On seeing him, the witness reportedly tried to ask the urinating man about the woman's condition, but the person apparently sped away on the MCH Garbage vehicle which was parked on the other side of the road.

Immediately, he chased the MCH vehicle and informed the matter to the police control room over 100. Finally, he caught the driver of the MCH vehicle near St. Anns School, Secunderabad, with the help of a Gopalapuram Rakshak Vehicle, and handed over the accused Venkatesh to the Trimulgherry police for further investigation.

During the interrogation, the accused admitted to have committed the offence.

According to ACP Begumpet I T V S Suryanarayana, the case was detected due to the active role played by a citizen, Mr. Rama Krishna. The senior officers of the City police appreciated the efforts of Mr. Rama Krishna. (INN)
