EC Lifts Former DGP Anjani Kumar's Suspension
Kumar explained that he had gone to the residence of Revanth Reddy upon the invitation of the latter on the day of the election results being announced.
The Election Commission of India (EC) has lifted the suspension imposed on senior IPS officer Anjani Kumar as DGP of Telangana.
Anjani Kumar was the DGP of the State when the Assembly election results were announced. He went and met Revanth Reddy on December 3, 2023, when the results were still coming out and the model code of conduct was in force. He was promptly suspended by the EC for violating the election norms.
Explaining this to the EC, Kumar said that he did not violate the election code intentionally. He said that he had gone to the residence of Reddy upon the invitation of the latter on that day. He also told the EC that he would not repeat such incidents in future.
After considering his appeal, the EC took the decision to lift the suspension. The EC wrote to the State government to this effect.
