Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister E Dayakar Rao today appealed to the union government to release Rs 1,024 crore towards the state's MGNREGA scheme immediately.
In a letter addressed to union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Rao urged the minister to release the pending funds to the state so that incomplete MGNREGA works could be finished at the earliest.
"Telangana was supposed to receive a total of Rs 1,719.23 crore from the union government this year for the implementation of the scheme. So far it has received only Rs 694.66 crore. I urge the government to release the balance amount of Rs 1,024.59 crore at the earliest," he said.
The minister also informed Tomar that the state had successfully executed the livelihood scheme, and required more funds to continue the same.
"The state government has been successfully implementing the livelihood scheme. It has been providing employment to the workers in the state by generating regular employment opportunities. This year alone, 51.87 lakh wage seekers from 29.87 lakh households in the state were able to avail themselves of employment opportunities under the scheme. To continue to provide work to the people, it is imperative that we receive the funds," he said.
