Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today announced that the second phase of the state's sheep distribution program would be postponed from June 2 to end-June as a result of the ongoing pandemic and of the shortage of cattle feed.
At a high-level review meeting on the matter at his office, the minister asked the officials of his department to defer the second phase of the state's sheep distribution program from June 2 to late June.
Talking about the cattle shed building program undertaken by the government, he said that the state government was constructing sheds large enough to accommodate 6 herds of cattle and that Rs 57,000 was being spent on the construction of each shed.
Yadav then asked the officials to speed up the works of the construction of cattle and sheep sheds being built under the NREGS, and to hold awareness programs for all the dairy farmers in the state to ensure that they were able to avail themselves of the benefits of the construction program.
At the meeting, he also expressed happiness at the rapid completion of the works, and said, "Out of the 6,453 shed applications received by our department, 3,631 have already been addressed and sheds have been built for the applicants. The construction of the remaining 2,822 sheds will also be completed very soon."
"We have already given 77.06 lakh sheep to 3,66,976 beneficiaries across Telangana. To further help livestock rearers, our government has decided to build well-equipped sheep markets in every district of Telangana. The second phase of the distribution program will be implemented without any irregularities. The Rs 3,000 crore allocated for the scheme in the state Budget will be used transparently and optimally. The postponement of the second phase should not worry anyone as distribution will be started after the monsoons," the leader said.
Animal husbandry department Secretary Anitha Rajendra, department director Laxma Reddy and additional director Ramchandra also attended the meeting.
