Telangana BJP State president N Ramchander Rao today strongly criticised the Congress-led Telangana government for passing a resolution against the "VB - G RAM G" Act, accusing the party of spreading misinformation and politicising Mahatma Gandhi's name.
Addressing the media, Rao said that the Congress had a long history of implementing employment schemes without invoking Gandhi's name, and that the party renamed NREGA to MGNREGA in 2009 purely for electoral gains. He also cited Rahul Gandhi's 2021 remarks questioning the relevance of MNREGA, and accused the Congress of double standards.
Rao said that the VB G RAM G Act expanded guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days, strengthened provisions for unemployment allowance and compensation for delayed wages, and ensured decentralised planning through Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas. At least 50% of the works would be executed locally, with a focus on water conservation, infrastructure creation, livelihood generation, disaster resilience, and special provisions for women and self-help groups, he said.
Speaking about the transparency measures, Rao said that the Act mandated social audits, biometric attendance, GIS-based verification, and technology-driven monitoring to prevent fraud.
Calling the legislation a forward-looking rural reform, Rao claimed that it aligned with the goal of "Viksit Bharat @ 2047", and urged the Congress to introspect on its own policy failures instead of indulging in political theatrics.
