A team from the union government, comprising officials Rohit Kumar, Amarinder Prakash Singh and Kiran Kumar, today expressed appreciation for the Telangana state government for having provided 13 crore working days to the daily wagers of the state under the Centre's Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
The team spoke with Panchayat Raj Minister E Dayakar Rao, and praised the steps being taken by the state government to generate employment in the state.
"The Telangana government has set a high benchmark for the other states by generating employment for the poor people of the state for 13 crore days under the national employment guarantee scheme. We hope that the government will soon be able to surpass its own achievement by providing employment opportunities to the scheme's beneficiaries for 18 crore days. We encourage the other states in the country to emulate the Telangana government's model," the team said.
The officials also toured several villages in districts including Rangareddy to take stock of the employment opportunities being offered to the residents there.
Speaking to the team, Dayakar Rao apprised them of the local level schemes being implemented by the TRS government to provide employment to daily wages workers.
"The state government is committed to providing regular work to the daily wagers in the state for their economic welfare. Several schemes, including the Palle Pragathi and Pattana Pragathi schemes, have already been implemented to achieve the same. The other states in the country should also follow suit and help strengthen the working class," the minister said.
