Congress MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday expressed confidence that his party would win the Munugodu by-election by a comfortable majority.
Reddy, along with Congress candidate Palvai Sravanthi, was addressing a series of corner meetings in Enagandla Tanda, Allapuram, Koyalagudem, Ellambavi and Ellagiri in the Munugodu constituency on Saturday.
He said that despite the TRS and the BJP distributing huge money and liquor among the voters, Sravanthi had been receiving tremendous response from the people, especially the women.
"Since the TRS and the BJP leaders are corrupt, they wrongly assumed that they could bribe all others, especially the Munugodu voters. However, both the parties are unable to campaign freely, as many villagers are questioning their non-performance," he said.
Listing out the failures of the TRS and the BJP governments, the Congress MP said no section of the society was happy with the performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. He said that Modi did not fulfil his promise of giving two crore jobs a year, and that on the contrary unemployment was at its peak in India. He also pointed out that even KCR had not fulfilled his promise of giving an unemployment allowance of Rs 3,016. Claiming that almost 40% of voters in Munugodu were young, he asked whether the BJP or the TRS had done anything to provide them with jobs.
Appealing to the youth not to get lured by the offers of cash or liquor by the BJP and the TRS, Reddy said that such "bribes" would ruin the lives of the future generation.
"If you vote for the BJP or the TRS by taking Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 per vote, you will benefit only once. But if you vote for the Congress and elect Palvai Sravanthi, it will force both the BJP and the TRS governments to fulfil the promises they made you. They will be forced to give you jobs and houses, and also fulfill their other promises to you, and you will benefit every month," he said.
The Congress leader appealed to the voters to give one opportunity to Sravanthi, who he said was a qualified young woman who had been associated with the people of Munugodu since her birth and had also served them along with her father late Palvai Govardhan Reddy.
"You have given an opportunity to Prabhakar Reddy (TRS) and Rajagopal Reddy (BJP). Both betrayed you and did not fulfill any of the promises they made to you. This time, give just one opportunity to Sravanthi, who will prove to be a better leader than all the others," he appealed.
