The Congress Legislature Party on Friday strongly objected to the proposed changes in the alignment of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Speaking to media persons at the Assembly premises, CLP deputy leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Secretary Rammohan Reddy, and MLCs M S Prabhakar and Ranga Reddy alleged that the State Government was trying to delay the Metro Rail project by proposing changes in its alignment.
They also took the media persons to the Metro Rail site opposite the Assembly and claimed that the route neither disturbed the Assembly building nor affected Gun Park.
In fact, they said that Metro Rail passengers would have a closer look at the Telangana Martyrs' Memorial while travelling on the route.
Vikramarka said that the Congress Government had finalised the project after taking all aspects into consideration, and therefore the original alignment should continue.
He said that the proposed changes in alignment at the Assembly, Sultan Bazar and in the Old City would increase the project cost by about Rs 3,000 crores, and that burden would be passed on to the common people by way of higher pricing of the Metro Rail tickets.
He warned of massive protests if any changes were made to the Metro Rail alignment. (INN)
