Veteran Congress leader and former minister Dr J Geeta Reddy today pilloried Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, alleging that the latter was "trying to cheat" the Dalits of the state in the name of the implementation of the new Dalit Bandhu scheme.
Speaking to the media, she also alleged that none of the earlier promises the CM had made to the Dalit community had been fulfilled so far.
"KCR has not yet fulfilled the promises he had made to the Dalits of Telangana. He did not even make a Dalit leader the first CM of the state though he had repeatedly made the promise of doing so. Further, he has also not revealed the reason behind the removal of MLA T S Rajaiah from the post of Deputy CM," Reddy claimed.
She accused the CM of not having kept his word of changing the existing SC/ST sub-plan, and added, "The KCR government has spent only Rs 47,000 crore against an allocated amount of Rs 85,000 crore on SC/ST welfare. Nobody knows what became of the remaining Rs 38,000 crore. How then can the Dalits of the state believe KCR now? The GOs issued by the CM for the welfare of the SCs too are only paper tigers, never amounting to much in practice."
The leader then faulted the state government for having distributed only a total of 16,000 acres of land to 6,662 SC families when there were 3 lakh families that were eligible to get land.
Ever since the announcement of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, the TRS regime has been drawing considerable flak from various quarters for attempting to use the scheme to attract support ahead of the upcoming Huzurabad by-election or to "cheat" the Dalit community in the state.
Recently, the secretary of the Telangana unit of the CPI, Chada Venkat Reddy, had also lambasted KCR
for trying to use the Dalit empowerment scheme to "benefit" in the by-election.
