The Humayun Nagar police arrest a gang of chain-snatchers involved in 32 cases of chain-snatching.
The Humayun Nagar police have arrested a gang of chain-snatchers, which was involved in 32 cases of chain snatching in the limits of the Hyderabad City Police.
The alleged notorious gang used to move on two-wheelers and snatch gold ornaments from women, in places like colonies, parks, temples and super markets.
The police have recovered gold ornaments weighing about 1 kilogram and worth nearly Rs. 26 lakh, at the instance of the accused.
Those arrested are Mohd Abdul Faheem, Abdul Sameer and Syed Abdul Nayeem, while another accused, Syed Ahmedullah, is absconding.
Two more persons - Mohd Abdul Kareem and Syed Shahnawaz - who received the stolen property, have also been arrested.
The chain-snatching offences were committed in the police station limits of Tappachabutra (2), Humayun Ngar (4), Langar Houz (8), Golconda (7), Asifnagar (3), Habeebnagar (1), Malakpet (4), Kachiguda (2) and Tirumalagiry (1).
The police have also seized two two-wheelers which were used to commit the offences.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) G Sudheer Babu advised the public to be cautious and move in groups during their morning walks or visits of temples, shopping malls, cinema theaters and other public places.
He cautioned women against making their ornaments visible to others, and said that they must be careful when alone in public places.
Citizens who find suspicious activity have been asked to dial 100. People have also been asked to report motorcycles without license plates, especially Pulsars and Honda Twisters. (INN)
