The Kukatpally police today arrested three men in connection with the murder of Syed Shahed, a 26-year-old businessman and known rowdy-sheeter from Borabanda.
The accused - Y Hanak alias Munna (25), Md Sajid (24) and Md Sameer Khan alias Dagad Sameer (25) - have been remanded to judicial custody.
All three accused were once close to Shahed and part of his inner circle.
According to the police, Shahed, who had a history of criminal activity, had developed a personal enmity with Sameer. The rivalry intensified after Shahed publicly criticised Sameer on social media, damaging his local reputation.
The police said the accused then conspired to eliminate him to gain control over his local clout and criminal network. On June 29, the trio lured Shahed to a birthday party hosted by a mutual friend named Pavan. They gathered at an open ground behind Dev Istana Homes in Prakash Nagar, Kukatpally, where they consumed alcohol. During the gathering, Sajid allegedly slit Shahed's throat with a broken liquor bottle, while Munna and Sameer bludgeoned his head with stones, killing him instantly.
The police recovered liquor bottles, blood-stained stones, clothes and mobile phones allegedly used in the crime.
Sameer has a criminal record with multiple cases registered against him for theft, stalking and murder across police stations in Jubilee Hills, Sanathnagar, S R Nagar and Bachupally. He is also listed as a rowdy-sheeter at the Borabanda police station.
