The Hyderabad Central Zone task force and the Amberpet police today busted an organised online satta betting racket.
The team raided a rented flat in Bathakammakunta, Bagh Amberpet, and arrested six individuals - Voddepelli Naveen, Pudari Sai Kiran, Soma Mahender, Bingi Sai Kiran and Bingi Avinash (natives of Kagaznagar), and Sana Sai Preetham (native of Huzurabad) - involved in the illegal activity.
Being friends and well-versed in online betting and satta/matka operations, they rented the flat two months ago for Rs 14,000 per month and set up their base using laptops and mobile phones.
The accused had created multiple fake Facebook IDs linked to unidentified mobile numbers to promote their betting operations. They operated these accounts under names including Satta Matka Kalyan Result, Ashwin Nayak, Teer Shillong Counter, Arjun Sarkar and Vishal K, all linked to unverified mobile numbers. These platforms were used to attract individuals with a tendency to participate in online international and satta/matka betting.
The accused also created fake promotional videos, featuring one of them acting as a punter claiming to have won large sums from small investments, to promote the betting site and lure more victims.
Each punter was required to pay a registration fee ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 for number predictions. Payments were collected through online methods, including QR code scanners, Google Pay, PhonePe and other UPI platforms.
Initially they lured players by offering small profits, but once larger investments were made, the accused manipulated the game outcomes to ensure that the victims ultimately lost their investments.
The arrested individuals and the seized property have been handed over to the Amberpet SHO for further investigation.
