As the Lok Sabha elections are approaching, the Congress is trying to attract even more leaders from the opposition parties to regain its lost political ground in Telangana.
As part of this exercise, the Congress candidate for the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha seat Mallu Ravi called on former MP and BRS leader Dr Manda Jagannadham at the latter's residence on Saturday and invited him to join the Congress.
Ravi also requested Jagannadham to support him in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Ever since the MP ticket for him was confirmed, Ravi has been meeting key leaders of the constituency and seeking their support for him in the election.
According to sources, Jagannadham responded positively and said that he would take a decision on joining the Congress after meeting his followers, key leaders and party activists.
Many BRS MPs - Venkatesh Neta (Peddapally), Bibi Patil (Zaheerabad), Ranjith Reddy (Chevella) and Pasunuri Dayakar (Warangal) - have already submitted their resignations to the party president K Chandrashekar Rao and joined the Congress. In addition, some MLAs, former MLAs and former MPs also seem ready to leave the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
