Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced that his party members will take up a padayatra in the adjoining areas of the Sri Ramsagar Project to create awareness about the illegal constructions across the river Godavari as part of the Babli Irrigation Project by the Maharashtra government.

Talking to media persons after chairing a politburo meeting convened at NTR Trust Bhavan on Thursday, Naidu said that senior party leaders have decided to take up the padayatra, to build pressure on the central and state governments to find a political solution to the controversial Babli project.

He said the politburo has decided to invite all-party leaders for taking part in the padayatra to mount pressure on the Centre and to find an immediate solution to the problem with the intervention of prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Telugu Desam leader Errabelli Dayakararao said the padayatra was aimed to create awareness at village lever over the potential disaster the people of the region face if works on the illegal Babli project are not stopped immediately.

The politburo meeting also discussed the recent by-election results, and the political conditions in the state and country, along with ways and strategies to be adopted in the current scenario.
