The Telangana government today announced that all the students of the state who appeared for the Intermediate first year exams earlier this year would be declared passed.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy told the media that the government had taken a decision to award all students who got below 35% of the maximum marks, 35% of the maximum marks, and declare them passed.
The related orders would be issued soon, she said.
In the results announced a few days back, 51% of the students had been declared failed. This led to widespread protests by the students and their parents, and the opposition parties gleefully seized the opportunity and demanded the passing of all the failed students.
Reddy asserted that the Board of Intermediate Education and its officials had not committed any mistake as alleged by some students and others, and that the valuation of marksheets had been verified.
She also claimed that the government had taken all necessary and possible measures to enable online classes during the coronavirus spread.
She added that challenges in academics were common, and that the students should take them head on and crack the exams. She urged them to study hard and excel in the future to reach their goals.
She also expressed grief at the reported suicides of some students.
