Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh on Monday called on Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who is continuing his indefinite hunger strike at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences after being shifted there
forcibly following a deterioration in his health.
The RLD chief enquired about Naidu's health from the doctors. He said that he was extending his 'full support and solidarity' to Naidu's fast.
Ajit Singh also condemned the police's high-handedness on TDP leaders while shifting Naidu from the New MLA Quarters.
The RLD leader criticized the state government's "inaction and indifferent attitude" in addressing the farmers' problems, and hoped that the state government "would at least come out with a revised compensation package for the farmers reeling under severe hardships because of 5 successive natural calamities." He said that the government should take Naidu's health into consideration.
Meanwhile, several leaders from the state, including Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti president Krishna Madiga and Jammu Kashmir Panthers Party president Bheem Singh, CPI national deputy secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, and others, visited NIMS on Monday and expressed their solidarity with Naidu.
The news about Naidu being forcibly shifted to NIMS also resulted in spontaneous protests breaking out across the state, with protestors stopping Road Transport Corporation buses at many bus stations.
Business establishments in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Anantapur, Nellore, Karimnagar, Warangal and Kadapa downed their shutters, following a bandh call by the TDP.
