The Lok Satta Party on Monday criticised the bandh call given by the Telugu Desam Party leaders following the forcible
shifting of their party president N Chandrababu Naidu to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, and said that a mature and responsible political party should not inconvenience people by calling for bandhs and rasta rokos whatever be the cause or provocation.
Commenting on the
state-wide bandh in the wake of the arrest of the fasting TDP chief, Lok Satta Party leaders Katari Srinivasa Rao, P Bhaskara Rao and P Ravi Maruth said that the bandh would hurt the very farmers whose cause Chandrababu Naidu wanted to espouse.
They said that as a result of the bandhs, farmers cannot move their produce to market yards, and neither can workers travel from place to place. Daily wage earners and small traders have to forgo their earnings, and dislocation in transport will result in denial of timely medical assistance to people in critical condition, they opined.
The Lok Satta Party appealed to all sections of people not to resort to destruction of property or violence.
The leaders reiterated the party view that focusing on the devastation caused by the rains of December 7 and 8 and seeking immediate relief would not serve the structural problems in the agrarian economy. The farmer should be enabled to sell his produce anywhere in the world so that he can withstand all natural vicissitudes.
The Lok Satta Party suggested that all parties unite, transcending their differences, to get both short-term and long-term problems of farmers resolved.
