Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education), Government of India, Dr. Daggubati Purandeswari on Thursday clarified that the proposed 2nd States Reorganisation Committee (SRC) was not set forth with the Telangana issue in view.
Purandeswari explained that the SRC was proposed to address the demands for separate statehoods in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
This statement of the Union Minister comes after various Telangana leaders interpreted her previous statements to mean that the Telangana issue, too, would be scrutinized by the 2nd SRC, and the Telangana activists had strongly condemned her.
A lot of confusion was created within the state's politics, and Telangana Congress leader
Ponnam Prabhakar had assured the Telangana politicos that the 2nd SRC would not touch the T issue.
Ponnam had also said that the Telangana leaders within the Congress party would revolt against the proposed SRC if it turns out that the committee intends to probe the Telangana issue.
