Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar, on Saturday, demanded a lifetime ban on contesting elections against expelled Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal for the
pepper-spray incident during the tabling of Telanganthe a Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party office, Ponnam claimed that he, along with other MPs were attacked by Lagadapati and other Seemandhra MPs, when they had tried to defend the Speaker Meira Kumar. He requested the Congress Parliamentary Party to release the footage of the entire incident to educate the people on what had actually happened on Thursday. He said that Lagadapati and other Seemandhra MPs have brought disrespect to the Telugu people with their unruly behaviour.
Ponnam also condemned Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for continuing in his post. He said that Kiran Kumar Reddy was made the Chief Minister by the Congress party and he enjoys no moral right to continue on the post by opposing a decision taken by the Congress High Command.
Ponnam also alleged that the Chief Minister's Office has been functioning as the headquarters of the Samaikhyandhra movement. Further, he said that the Chief Minister's meeting with the expelled MPs was an open challenge to the authority of Congress party. (INN)
