Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visited the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport's MRO facility, on Friday. This is the chief minister's first visit to the facility.
Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with Home minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy, Major Industries minister Dr. J Geeta Reddy and minister for Infrastructure & Ports Ganta Srinivasa Rao, toured the facility, which includes a wide body hangar that can accommodate 2 narrow body aircraft alternatively, one narrow body HANGAR with two bays, and one narrow body cum paint hangar.
GMR Group chairman G M Rao briefed the CM about the Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility, which, he said, provides comprehensive aircraft base maintenance service infrastructure in India, and will cater to the maintenance needs of regional and global airline customers.
He also explained to the CM how engineering & maintenance service operations can be performed on narrow body aircraft like the B-737 NG, ATR 42/72, and A-320 family of aircraft, and on wide body aircraft like B-777 & A-330.
MAS GMR Aerospace Engineering Co. Ltd. had developed the facility to provide aircraft base maintenance service infrastructure in India. The MGAE is a 50:50 joint venture partnership between Malaysian Aerospace Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (MAE) and GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL).
The MAS GMR has also signed mid-term and long-term contracts with certain airlines, for their MRO work. (INN)
