An Airbus A-380, the world's largest aircraft, made an emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad in the early hours of Sunday, after it developed a technical snag.
The aircraft, EK-385, flying from Bangkok to Dubai, was diverted to Hyderabad when it developed the snag.
The aircraft landed at around 3:45am with 481 people on board.
Emirates made alternate arrangements for passengers to reach their destinations.
At RGIA, the Airport Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF) immediately upgraded themselves from the CAT-9 category to the CAT-10 category to ensure the safe landing of the aircraft.
A press statement said, "The timely and well-coordinated action taken by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. staff along with its stakeholders shows the readiness of the airport in times of such emergencies, including its capability in handling A-380 aircraft."
This is the third time that an Airbus A-380 landed at the Hyderabad sirport within a span of 3 years.
The first was a ferry flight in October 2008, and second was in June 2011, when a commercial aircraft EK-413 flying from Sydney to Dubai landed for a medical emergency. (INN)
