On Thursday, the YSR Congress Party floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Thati Venkateswarlu, surprised the House by stating that, technically, he was a resident of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking after the Governor's address in the House, Venkateswarlu said that although he had been elected from the Aswaraopet Assembly segment of the Khammam district, his residence was located in the Kaikuluru mandal, which is still a part of the Narsaraopet Lok Sabha segment.
Another mandal, Elurupadu, of Khammam is a part of the Narsaraopet Lok Sabha constituency.
Therefore, he said that he would have an Andhra Pradesh ration card.
Venkateswarlu asked the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to take up this issue seriously as hundreds of families belonging to Telangana, and living on the borders of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, would face similar problems.
The YSRCP leader also asked the TRS government to clarify whether it would continue schemes including the SC/ST Sub-Plan, Arogyasri and other populist schemes that had been launched by former Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. (INN)
