In a humane gesture, BRS working president K T Rama Rao today pledged donate his organs on the floor of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
His announcement came during a session deliberating the Telangana Transplantation of Human Organs Bill, a legislative step toward regulating and promoting organ donation in the State.
KTR used the occasion to highlight the importance of raising awareness of and encouraging participation in organ donation. "As representatives of the people, we must lead by example. It is our duty to foster awareness and inspire citizens in our constituencies to embrace this noble cause," he said.
The BRS leader also proposed a special initiative to the Speaker - a campaign within the Assembly premises to enable MLAs to register as organ donors.
"Organ donation is a profound humanitarian act that can save countless lives. If the members are willing, let us initiate a signature drive right here in the Assembly. I will be the first to sign up," he said.
Many members of the Assembly praised KTR's act.
