Nellore Rural MLA and YSR Congress Party leader Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy was arrested by the Vedayapalem police on the charge that his supporters and he prevented them from discharging their legitimate duties.
The MLA, accompanied by his followers, reportedly went to the Vedayapalem police station on Friday night and created a ruckus and got into heated arguments with Circle Inspector Narasimha Rao over the police not willing to take action on three persons that the YSRCP activists had handed over to them for allegedly indulging in collecting data of people on Thursday on the pretext of surveys but in reality intending to delete their names from the voter list.
With this, the police registered a non-bailable offence case against the MLA and his supporters. Reddy then launched an indefinite hunger strike at the YSR Congress Party office at Magunta objecting to the action of the police and demanding that they withdraw the case, and when the police went to the spot and tried to arrest him in the case, the YSRCP leaders and activists present there resisted them.
The MLA was shifted to the Aido Nagar police station later, and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. He has been lodged in the Nellore Central Prison.
