YSR Congress Party President and Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday challenged the Congress party to disqualify the MLAs who had voted in favour of the recent
No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
Talking to reporters at his residence after holding a meeting with the MLAs, Jagan dared the Congress party to disqualify all 16 MLAs at once instead of "playing further politics".
He said that his party and his MLAs are ready to face by-elections, and that they would ensure a repeat of the Kadapa and Pulivendula results in all the constituencies.
"We will go the people, and we are ready for by-polls," he said.
Jagan appreciated the MLAs who had voted in favour of the motion despite knowing that they would be disqualified for their action. He said that these MLAs have created history, and that they have a displayed "great character".
"I am proud to be associated with them," he said.
The Kadapa MP alleged that the ruling party has tried all means to stop YSR Congress supporters from voting against the government.
"Payakaraopeta MLA Babu Rao was threatened that he would be killed in a fake encounter, and another MLA Sucharita was warned that a CBI enquiry would be ordered against her husband," Jagan alleged, stating that the MLAs did not support the government despite such threats.
Speaking about the discussions on the No Confidence Motion, Jagan said that although Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu had introduced the motion with regards to farmers' issues, his speech was directed at criticising his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Further, most of the leaders did not speak about the problems being faced by distressed farmers, and had used the occasion to settle their political scores, he said. (INN)
