Y S Jagan's latest move of
making 29 legislators resign from their posts appears to have shaken Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who convened an emergency meeting with the available ministers at his camp office in Hyderabad on Monday.
Deputy CM Damodar Rajanarasimha, Revenue Minister N Raguveera Reddy, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Civil Supplies Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, R&B Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, Municipal Administation Minister M Maheedhar Reddy, Marketing Minister Mukesh Goud, Union Textiles Minister Panabaka Laxmi and former Speaker K R Suresh Reddy attended the meeting.
The CM is understood to have asked these ministers to convince the pro-Jagan MLAs to reverse their loyalties. So far, 29 congress legislators, owing their allegiance to Y S Jagan have submitted their resignation letters to the Assembly Secretary Sadaram in the absence of Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar, who is away in Guntur on a tour.
Konda Surekha, Parakala Jayasudha Kapoor from Secunderabad and MLA Kunja Satyavathi from Bhadrachalam had already tendered their resignations for Telangana, and they are still pending with the Speaker.
In a move to protect his government, the CM has hinted at giving more powers to his Cabinet colleagues, and asked the ministers in charge to attend to the problems faced by the people in their respective constituencies.
Meanwhile, political analysts say that contrary to Jagan's expectations of dethroning the KKR Government, the current 'situation' has not gone out of hand, and that the government is quite safe.
The dilemma that the YSR Congress had planned to push the government into may not fructify with a meagre strength of 30 legislators.
The decision was taken as a rejoinder to oppose the current unprecendented raids on his offices and residences and that of Emaar properties across the country.
The current mood of the tax-payer is that of anger against the corrupt UPA government, and even Opposition parties are being forced to join the anti-corruption war.
This is the reason TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu could not offer a helping hand to Jaganmohan Reddy, who is surrounded by allegations of serious corruption. With Jagan's case being monitored directly by the High Court, the CBI might not bow to any political pressure.
These factors have ensured the survival of the KKR government. However, the scene might change if Jagan convinces more Congress MLAs to revolt and resign from the party. (INN)
