26 MLAs of the Congress, owing allegiance to beleaguered YSR Congress Party president and Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, on Monday, submitted their resignations to their MLA posts and also from their party's primary membership.
Addressing media persons at the Assembly, former Congress minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said that 26 Congress MLAs have submitted their resignations to Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram as Speaker Nadendla Manohar was not available in his office.
He said that resignations were in protest the inclusion of former chief minister YSR's name in the CBI's FIR in the case related to Jaganmohan Reddy's alleged disproportionate wealth.
Apart from Congress 26 MLAs, one PRP MLA (Shobha Nagireddy), 2 TDP MLAs (Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Y Bala Nagireddy) have also submitted their resignations.
Pilli said the MLAs submitted resignations as they were unable to digest humiliation meted out to YSR, who had brought back the Congress to power in AP for 2 consecutive terms. He also asked Congress-elected members loyal to YSR to submit resignations.
The MLAs alleged that the Congress party had hatched a conspiracy to tarnish the image of YSR and implicate Jagan in fake cases in the garb of the judiciary.
Earlier, the Congress MLAs had a discussion at YSR Congress Party office, and took a unanimous decision on the resignations. Later, they proceeded in a bus to Punjagutta and garlanded YSR's statue.
They then proceeded to Tank bund, where they paid rich tributes to B R Ambedkar, after which they came to the Assembly to submit their resignations.
3 MLAs - Konda Surekha, K Satyavathi and Jayasudha - did not submit resignations on Monday, as their resignation letters, which they had earlier submitted to protest for Telangana, are still pending with the Speaker. (INN)
