Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Monday, denied the role of the Congress in the
arrest of YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case.
Addressing a press conference at the state Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that the CBI's investigation and Jagan's arrest were taking place on the directions of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and that the state or central governments have no role to play in the CBI's judicial processes.
"The people of YSR Congress are trying to take political advantage out of this investigation, and blaming the Congress party. This is totally false, and the Congress condemns it," he said.
The Chief Minister said that it was only because of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi that Y S Rajashekara Reddy achieved what he did as a leader.
"He was nourished by the Congress party to take leadership for over 20-25 years in different capacities," he said.
Referring to the YSR family's outrage over Jagan's arrest, he said, "It is unfortunate that forgetting whatever the Congress did for Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and the family, they are trying to take political mileage out of the unfortunate death of YSR; at the same time, the YSR Congress is trying to blame the Congress. The Congress condemns these acts," Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
Further, Kiran Kumar Reddy reminded the press that it was YSR, who, as the Chief Minister, had ordered a CBI probe when Jagan's name was dragged into the murder case of TDP leader Paritala Ravi.
He said at that point of time, the YSR family or others never blamed the Congress.
"If the CBI investigation was impartial during YSR's regime, then why are his family members holding the Congress responsible for the probe against Jagan's illegal assets?" he asked.
"The CBI is doing its job, and Jagan must answer them as per the directions of the High Court," the Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
Regarding the arrest of former excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao, the Chief Minister said that in his personal opinion, Mopidevi would come out clean from all the charges leveled against him by the CBI. (INN)
