The Congress, on Thursday, described the arrest of excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana as unfortunate. However, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana said he would speak about the arrest only after getting a copy of the remand report from the CBI.
Meanwhile, AICC secretary K B Krishnamurthy said that the law would take its own course. Stating that the matter was in the court, he refused to make any comment on Mopidevi's arrest.
Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy expressed regrets over the arrest, and said that while some people were benefitting from scams, many others have become scapegoats. He hoped that the investigation would reveal the true picture of corruption. However, he expressed concern over the fact that a BC minister was arrested.
Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu expressed regrets over Mopidevi's arrest, and said he would speak about the issue only after getting a clear report from the CBI.
However, Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao stated that Mopidevi's arrest proves that no one is above the law. He said that stringent action must be taken against Mopidevi if the allegations against him are proved in a court of law. He also demanded that the CBI arrest the prime accused, YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy, immediately.
